One more thing almost every backpacker or-on-a-budget has not been known to travel in Thailand is that basically the extreme south-west there is a small city that, like you've never seen before . Sure, you might think, "all Thai cities are the same, but I can assure you, this is a majority of the others.
The city named Muang Trang, Trang or short. Now, if you go running over there in search of great British libraries, Starbucks coffee, ormulti-level department stores, you won't find any. What you'll find instead is a real, laid back Thai town that has its own unique breed of Tuk Tuks, and curious architecture.
Look further afield and your eyes will take in thousands upon thousands of rubber gardens and palm plantations. Literally, as far as the eye can see. It's certainly different, and beautiful too, especially when you catch the rubber workers in the misty early hours of the morning with sunlight glistening through the trees.
The thing that makes this district magical is that it's not really a tourist or backpacker hangout. I mean, backpackers do come here, but they're usually on their way somewhere else. And the odd tourist visits too, but the town isn't really set up for tourists too much, so many find there's not much to do.
However, Trang is a little paradise unseen in Thailand. In 30 minutes you can be exploring beaches that only a few have seen, walking through huge cavernous caves, or exploring massive bouldered waterfalls to your heart's content. Plus Bangkok is only a 1 hour flight away, and Krabi a short picturesque drive too.
Get up early enough and you'll be able to taste the Trang delicacies for breakfast... Think I'll try the delicious roasted pork with a sweet tea today! So, keep this magical place secret, and I'll see you down here soon enough!
